Guilty as charged...

Ever have one of those moments when you're just minding your own business, thinking that you're looking pretty good, then notice that your skirt is tucked up into your pantyhose? After you've already left the house and been seen by about a hundred people? That's sort of how it was for me when I read this post about fake flowers by the Nester. I realized that all the fake greenery that I thought was making my house pretty was actually the modern equivalent of velvet wallpaper. The good news is that I've realized the error of my ways and have committed to change. I even threw out the three bunches of ivy that I had up on my kitchen cabinets (I'm still trying to get used to it being so empty!). Change takes time, though. If you look really closely around my home, you'll still see some pockets of resistance.

Exhibit A: the piano. I actually still like the greenery in the pot on the right, but the one on the left is admittedly horrible. I wanted to put out my urn but didn't have anything to put in it and still haven't been anywhere to get something. So we'll have to live with it for a few more days.

Exhibit B: the TV table. Okay, I know we were supposed to get rid of all this ivy, but this one really does serve a purpose. When we had our plasma installed and wired for satellite, the satellite guy (under Derek's direction) fed the cables through the wall and back out so they could be hooked up to the receiver and surround sound. However, we overestimated the height of the unassembled table we'd gotten to go under the TV and were left with a visable hole with protruding wires. To hide it, I got out this basket and stuffed it with ivy. Voila! Problem solved!

Until I find something that looks good and hides the wires, this puppy's staying.

Do you have any fakes that you need to set free? Put on your dancing shoes and waltz on over to the Nester's P.O.O.P.I.E. Party (People Opposing Objectionable Pretend plants In the Environment). Be sure to check out everyone's links to their far-from-fabulous fakes and if you're so inclined, share some of your own!

I think that's a clever solution to put the plant in front of the hole in the wall. I don't mind little pots of ivy like yours at all. Sometimes they serve a purpose. -Julia :-)

I think your ivy hiding the hole in the wall is just fine. If it bothers you, you could always put seasonal stuff int he basket instead. Love your blog!

I hate to tell you but, velvet wallpaper is back in style. At least the flocked kind.

so, I guess you'll be keeping your ivy after all. Watch, in 6 months fake ivy will be selling at a premium and we will all be kicking ourselves!

great writing!

I definitely have some fake running around my house...but when you look at the real plants they are all dead or dying a slow death. So for those of us who forget to water....fake works just fine! I think your solution to cover the wires was a good one!

I like your baskets of ivy. Real ivy is such a pain the you-know-what anyway. I think the basket of ivy is a clever solution to the hole.

I'm laughing so hard I could just...nevermind! I'll be "nice" and not say it!

LOVE the Ivy Basket...I think that is something I originally started doing with the bunches I have ... to hide the obviously yucky wiring to all kinds of things...my pet peeve is to see the wires across end tables and so on...what better way to disquise it than to lay a pot of Ivy over it, on it's side...looking INTENTIONALLY knocked over! LOL!

Love the humor..sounds like we could just get along well in the JAIL CELL reserved for all of us that LOVE our fake plants!
Afterall, Nester said she would bail ME out...but I was thinking she would just BE there to join us, as SHE STARTED IT ALL!

Nice to meet you!

Angela, Your comment was GREAT! I already sent out my requests for someone to PLEASE bring some tea! I love Hot Tea and I guess I could bring some Ivy...some to wrap around those COLD IRON BARS for that coined phrase of "softening hard lines"...can't get any harder than hard cold iron bars!

As for my Barn Stars...believe me, this is just a result of my status of "hostage due to DMV ERROR" for THREE WHOLE MONTHS, while waiting on a Birth Certificate from NJ! So I got to stare at my walls. A. Lot. So there have been MAJOR changes going on here, and that is why you don't see a LOT of my pics.
Not to mention that Nester gave me a complex...HGTV really sucks! I thought I had it down, this decorating thing, and NOW they tell me that ALL BUT 9 items on their list are MISTAKES! Oh, how WRONG of them to do this to all of us on budgets!

LOL! Thanks!
